Buttons: finishing process

Talon International offers a wide variety of creative finishing effects to help you achieve a truly distinctive look for your garment design. These finishing options also apply to both rivets and snaps.

EMBOSSING When your logo, type or graphic is raised above the surface of the cap.

DEBOSSING When your logo, type or graphic is engraved into the surface of the cap. The same button cap may feature both embossing or debussing. You can select different parts of your artwork to be embossed or debussed. When you submit your artwork to Talon International, please be sure to specify embossed and debussed areas. If you prefer, Talon International can provide expert graphic design services. We can also recommend ideal embossing and debussing if you're not sure what will work best for your artwork.

ELECTROPLATING Primarily used with brass caps, electroplating is a process that alters the color and sheen of the tack button cap. We can achieve a wide variety of effects, ranging from "pewter" to "blue zinc." Alloy caps can also be electroplated, although we recommend that a shade close to the original gray alloy be chosen. Please refer to the Button Color Chart for more than 35 different color possibilities.

SPRAYING Effective on both brass and stainless steel, spray finishes are particularly resilient in strong stone washes and sandblast washes. Spraying can provide certain color tones not possible with electroplating.

ENAMEL/EPOXY FILL Debussed areas of a cap (or flat areas of an embossed cap) are filled with a colored enamel. This is a very slow, expensive process, but can result in a highly attractive and unique style of button. Tack buttons with enamel/epoxy fills should be applied after strong industrial washes.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS Wash Testing: Talon International strongly recommends that you use your pre-production samples to wash test any button before we begin manufacturing. Depending on the base materials and finishing, some buttons may need to be applied after the wash.
